Microsoft presents better figures than the market envisioned, and the stock market rejoices.

On Tuesday evening, Norwegian time, Microsoft presented the figures for the first quarter of 2021 (deviating financial year).

They show that one of the world’s most valuable companies had a turnover of 37.2 billion dollars, an increase of 12 percent from the corresponding quarter last year. Microsoft achieved an operating profit of 15.9 billion and earned 1.82 dollars per share. This is 32 percent better than the first quarter of 2020.

– The next decade for the results of any company will be defined by the speed of their digital transformation, says CEO Satya Nadella in Microsoft in a press release on Tuesday night Norwegian time.

Revenues from intelligent clouds increased by as much as 20 percent compared to the first quarter of 2020.

Microsoft shareholders, including the Petroleum Fund (see below), received $ 9.5 billion in the quarter, in the form of share repurchases and dividends. There is also a sharp increase from the same quarter last year.

Analysts predicted on average that Microsoft in the previous quarter would have total revenue of $ 35.7 billion and earn $ 1.61 per share.

The stock market appreciated the good numbers, and the Microsoft share is up 1.5 percent at 9.30 pm Norwegian time.

The Microsoft stock, like many other stocks, has dropped a bit lately, but is still up over 35 percent so far this year (see the graph below). The company has a market value on Tuesday night of 1.610 billion dollars, about 14.730 billion Norwegian kroner.

That is over 3,000 billion more than the value of the Norwegian Petroleum Fund. But the Oil Fund owns almost exactly 1 percent of Microsoft, so the Norwegian values ​​in the technology giant are now up to 147 billion kroner.
