Microsoft releases fix for quick resume issue for some games on Series X and S – Gaming – News

Microsoft says that a solution is in the works to resolve the issues with the quick resume function. This Series X and S feature works flawlessly on the vast majority of games, but issues may arise with some games optimized for the new consoles.

Microsoft has, through Jason Ronald, the director of project management, let them know that some ‘optimized titles have been discovered where issues can occur’. The quick resume function has been temporarily disabled for those titles. Ronald says that a fix is being worked on quickly, although it is not yet clear how quickly it will be ready. He also does not say which titles are involved. According to him, the function is ‘fully operational’ with thousands of titles.

Quick resume is one of the distinctive features of the new Xbox Series X and S consoles. The function makes it possible to switch between games very smoothly, allowing players to pick up the thread immediately in-game. In a matter of seconds, the exact state of a game session is saved and that of another game loaded, after which you can continue playing exactly from where you left off. About five different games remain active in the console’s memory.

Such a function was already available with the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, although it is significantly less advanced. For example, switching from one game to another takes longer there. Also, these previous-generation consoles don’t freeze and save five game sessions; only one other game can be switched at a time. If you subsequently switch to a third game, the session of the first game will be overwritten and therefore no longer available. The PlayStation 5 doesn’t have a quick resume like the new Xbox consoles have; Sony’s new console retains the existing functionality of the PS4 in this regard.
