Microsoft recognizes a serious problem in Windows 10 … this is how it addresses it

It was recently discovered that the latest update to the Windows 10 operating system was somehow deleting user files. And the update has been on the Internet for more than a week now, and it is strange that Microsoft did not officially acknowledge the problem, but it did so informally, and it also announced that it had found a solution to the problem.

Thanks to this “recognition” from Microsoft, it is due to the “Windows List” website that follows the news of the famous operating system, where the site met a member of the technical support staff in the company without naming him, and was quoted as saying that it “is aware of this known problem, and our engineers are working hard to find a solution to her”.

In addition, it was reported that the Windows team was able to duplicate the vulnerability and find a possible way to recover any lost files.

This flawed security update officially named “KB4532693” caused the Windows 10 “Start” menu and desktop to return to their default settings, leaving users confused wondering where all their familiar shortcuts, applications and desktop wallpaper had disappeared.

But that problem pales in comparison to the idea that some users are losing their files due to that latest update from Microsoft.

It is noteworthy that “Windows 10” faced a difficult start in the year 2020, as in early February this previous update for Windows – called “KB4532695” – slowed down the wireless internet (wi-fi) for users and caused problems with audio devices. Last January, another security update refused to install itself on the device, forcing users to do this manually.

Fix the problem
It appears that the problem – at least in some cases – is caused not by the operating system deleting files, but rather by opening a new temporary profile within the data of an existing user account. The Windows team found that setting up a new account and transferring data from the temporary account to it solved the problem. However, TomsGuide is not recommended for this method unless you are familiar with how Windows 10 works.

Alternatively, you can remove the update that caused the problem in the first place, by going to:

Settings -> Update and Security -> Windows Update -> Update Log -> Remove updates.

Once you get there, find the update in the list – in this case it is KB4532693 – set it and then choose to uninstall it.

It should be noted that this did not work for everyone, as some users failed to find their lost files or restore them to a new account, so it is best to wait for Microsoft to offer a formal fix if you can.
