MicroLED Technology: The Era of Transparent TVs is Finally Here

Manufacturers have been flirting with transparent displays for several years, after all, we witnessed it at the previous years of the CES fair. But the previous attempts were not exactly successful twice, which resulted in us never seeing a production version.

The previously presented concepts usually had so many ailments that although they looked effective, no one wanted to look at them in the long term.

This is now changing with MicroLED technology, which offers enough power to make the image bright, sharp and full of color at the same time. In addition, the novelty eliminates other ills of transparent LCD displays that we knew before, for example, it does without wide frames – it basically has none.

Although this is still a concept and Samsung does not want to reveal anything about mass production just yet, it is clear from the presentation that the era of transparent TVs is indeed coming.

A picture that turns into a TV

What could it look like in practice? In the past, Samsung tried several times to disguise TVs, for example, behind pictures, so that they would not be so distracting in the living room. We are talking about the Frame product line, which masks the screen in a distinctive frame resembling a picture.

However, we could now have a picture hung on the wall with transparent glass, which would turn into a TV only when we really want to watch it. Similarly, computer monitors in homes could also be hidden in the space, so that they are not so distracting in bedrooms or living rooms.

Smart mirrors and means of transport

In theory, transparent displays can also be used in smart mirrors. The image reappears only when needed.

We could also expect them in cars, in which they could replace, for example, head-up displays.

Of course, it is also possible to use it in a commercial environment. Transparent displays could appear on window panes in vehicles to inform you of upcoming stops.

Of course, they can also serve as advertising carriers. They will certainly be less distracting in the space than the big screens that are waiting for us in practically every corner.
