Hollywood star Mickey Rourke (68) shocked the jury, presenters and audience in “The Masked Singer”.

Rourke has been among the participants in the singing competition, which means that famous people act hidden behind a costume.

The concept is that one participant is eliminated in each broadcast, the one who has received the fewest votes from the jury and the audience. First gives the person behind the mask is allowed to reveal his identity.

This rule Rourke broke with brilliance this week – dressed as Gremlins. On the live show, in front of the shocked host Nick Cannon (39), the movie star tore off the costume and threw it into the hall.

– What is going on? exclaimed Judge Jenny McCarthy (47) when she realized that something was about to happen on stage.

Tried to prevent

She sits on the jury along with Ken Jeong (51), Nicole Scherzinger (42) and Robin Thicke (43).

“Gremlins here says he wants to take off his mask because it’s too hot,” Cannon laughed.

– But we have not come to that part of the show yet, the host said frantically as he tried to prevent Rourke from revealing who he was.

A startled Scherzinger also shouted: “You can not do that!”, While Thicke stirred up the mood with: “I say, let him drive!”.

Fox has even posted the incident on Twitter (the article continues below):

When it was too late, and the secret was revealed, the whole hall was in ecstasy. The judges too.

– Oh my God! said a gaping McCarthy, while both the host and the others on the jury expressed disbelief that it was the Oscar-nominated “The Wrestler” actor who stood in front of them.

On the cry

Rourke, also known from films such as “9 1/2 Weeks”, “Angel Heart” and “Sin City”, had previously performed Ben E. King’s ballad classic “Stand By Me”.

In an interview with Fox backstage after the broadcast, the 68-year-old explained that he enjoyed himself and liked the costume. Emotions were about to take over when he explained that he sang this particular song in honor of musician friend Willy DeVille who died in 2009.

“It was all about my feelings for Willy,” Rourke said, clearly crying.

The interview is posted on the TV channel Facebook-side.

Never before during four seasons of “The Masked Singer” has it happened that a participant has revealed himself before the vote.
