Mick Jagger in Palermo, surprise visit to the Royal Palace

Surprise visit, shortly after midday, by Mick Jagger at Palazzo dei Normanni, seat of the Sicilian Regional Assembly. The Rolling Stones singer arrived at the Royal Palace accompanied by his staff and an interpreter. To welcome him, the president of Ars Gianfranco Micciché, who greeted him at the end of the journey along the palace: from the “new” medieval tunnel, recently inaugurated, to the Palatine Chapel, to the royal apartments, the room of King Roger to the exhibition “Terracqueo” dedicated to the Mediterranean. Mick Jagger showed that he was prepared on the artistic themes that emerged from the visit and he very much appreciated the treasures of the palace.

The rockstar arrived by car, entering from the royal gardens: total black look, that is, dark jacket and pants, sneakers and white mask. Strict agreement with the Palermo guests on the ban on disseminating the photos taken. After the visit, Jagger went to the Pisana Tower where the president of the Regional Assembly Gianfranco Micciché has his office: he confessed to being a music lover and an admirer of his and, each in his own language, helped by the interpreter, they spoke of a Rolling Stones song translated into Italian. At the end of the tour of the Royal Palace, Jagger’s tourist day continued on foot along Corso Vittorio Emanuele.

And so after Palazzo dei Normanni Jagger wanted to take a walk through the narrow streets of the historic center and arrived in via IV Aprile – that of the Lorenzo chocolate shop – where for a couple of months four artisan women have opened their shops and created Borgo Strafalè, filling the outside with plants and colorful paintings: it was one of those paintings that attracted Jagger, the painting of a “strafalaria” (by Antonio Fester Nuccio on the “strafalaria” as the women who once lived in the premises in question were called when they were meeting houses) that welcome wayfarers inviting them to enter the shops. The Rolling Stones singer stood there for half an hour photographing paintings and shops. “Wonderful” he would have exclaimed, probably attracted by the colors of the painting. Jagger arrived with the escort men arousing curiosity among the residents of via IV Aprile who did not take long to recognize the star. Then he went to Palazzo Abatellis, which is closed today as it is Saturday, then he would go to Palazzo Butera.
