Michigan confidence index drops

The preliminary index of US consumer sentiment measured by the University of Michigan for the month of May stood at 82.8, against 90.3 of market consensus and 88.3 in March. The index linked to the ‘Umich’ relating to inflation expectations is up sharply to 4.6%, against 3.4% for the last reading in March!

US company inventories for the month of March have also just been published, and reflect an increase of 0.3% compared to the previous month, in line with market expectations.
