Michel Mulder will assist coach Van Velde with Team Reggeborgh | NOW

Michel Mulder has been an assistant coach at Team Reggeborgh since the new skating season. The former Olympic champion will support trainer Gerard van Velde with the team.

At the beginning of this year, 34-year-old Mulder ended his career, in which he became the first Dutchman to be Olympic champion in the 500 meters in 2014. He had his peak years between 2012 and 2015.

“I am very happy that I can now assist Gerard in various areas,” says Mulder on Friday. “In the meantime, I am busy with my education to obtain the required trainer diplomas and hope to become a head coach myself in the future.”

De Zwollenaar becomes one of the three assistants of Van Velde, who was his coach for years. Van Velde is further assisted at Reggeborgh by the Australian Desly Hill and the Brit Phil Brojaka.

Team Reggeborgh, among others, Mulder’s twin brother Ronald Mulder is under contract, as is Kjeld Nuis, who came over from Jumbo-Visma. Ireen Wüst is also part of the team.
