In 1999, Michael Jackson seriously wanted to join the cast of the first movie “X-Men”. The artist had met director Bryan Singer, with the aim of playing the mythical Professor X in the heroic fantasy saga.
And Michael Jackson is an artist known worldwide for his songs, he also thrived behind the camera. On several occasions, he abandoned his role of “Roi of pop” to become an actor for a few takes. He notably played the role of the scarecrow in Wiz (1978), the adaptation of the musical The Wizard of Oz. In addition to his list of films, Captain Eo (1986), Moonwalker (1988) where he played his own role and Ghosts (1997). More amazingly, Michael Jackson even did a brief appearance in Men in Black II in 2002, where he donned the costume of Agent M.
There is a particular blockbuster in which Michael Jackson would have really wanted to play. In 2000, filmmaker Bryan Singer turned the world of superheroes upside down with the very first film of the saga X-Men, which has become emblematic. Among the mythical heroes of the saga, figure in particular Charles Xavier, known as Professor X, played by Patrick Stewart. The British actor played the mutant in seven films, from the first X-Men until Logan, released in 2017. Many people would have liked to play the role in his place, including Michael Jackson.
Michael Jackson already under fire
To mark the 20th anniversary of the first film X-Men, the Hollywood Reporter interviewed several people who worked on the feature film, Friday July 31. Two producers who worked on the set in 1999 recalled that Michael Jackson had a meeting with Bryan Singer. “I said to him, ‘Do you know Xavier is an old white dude?’Lauren Shuler Donner recalled.And Michael said, ‘Oh yeah, you know I can wear makeup’The singer then gave a presentation, which included his stint in the musical film. Ghosts, where he just played an old white mayor. Despite his efforts, Michael Jackson was never really taken seriously for the role of Professor X, by Twentieth Century Fox studios. “Michael was already in the whirlwind of allegations against him during X-Men“, recalled a former executive director, referring to the accusations of pedophilia against him.
