MG Whale: Breaking the Trend of Electric Cars in Chinese Manufacturers

The Chinese car manufacturer with British roots presents another novelty. Oddly enough, it is not powered by electricity, as it is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine.

Brands from the second most populous country in the world have evidently taken a liking to the names of new cars referring to the animal kingdom or the underwater world. BYD sent Seal and Doplhine models to the world, MG then adds a novelty in the form of an SUV coupe called Whale. This comparison obviously occurred to the Chinese creative while looking at the front of the news. The mask resembles a humpback whale, whose length can reach up to 30 meters.

The MG Whale is significantly smaller, although it is a long way from the minicar category. It measures 4.7 meters in length, so it slightly exceeds the Škoda Enyaq Coupé, for example, which is about five centimeters shorter. The wheelbase of 2.77 meters is complemented by a width of 190 centimeters and a height of 1.69 meters.

Since the new product is intended for the Arab markets, it is not powered by electricity, as has been the norm for Chinese cars lately. Under the hood is a turbocharged four-cylinder 2.0 petrol engine with an output of 170 kilowatts and a torque of 370 Nm, which is connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission as standard, while the driving force goes exclusively to the front wheels. It will therefore not be an ideal companion for the sand dunes of the Arabian Peninsula.

However, the car can certainly handle trips to work, family, entertainment and shopping. Although the trunk is a bit small in terms of external dimensions (382-1458 liters), there should be enough space for passengers. Passengers can look forward to a two-tone interior, two 12.3-inch displays, ambient lighting, electrically adjustable seats, navigation, a panoramic parking system, keyless access, an audio system with nine speakers, an electrically operated fifth door and other conveniences that we also know from European cars.

A sale in Europe is not likely, although not completely ruled out either.
