Mexico, Dec 30 (EFE) .- The National Meteorological Service (SMN) of Mexico forecast this Wednesday icy weather, snowfall, strong winds and rains in nine states in the northwest and north of the country for the next few hours.
In a statement, the SMN reported that during the early hours of Thursday, Cold Front number 24 will extend over the northeast of the country and the fourth Winter Storm will be located over the north.
In addition, the storm will interact with a polar current, “which will cause a cold environment and fall of snow and sleet in high areas of the northwest of Aguascalientes, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Durango, northern Jalisco, Nuevo León, San Luis Potosí, Sonora and Zacatecas.
The agency pointed out that due to the low temperatures, the population is recommended to comply with the indications of the National Civil Protection System, as well as avoid prolonged exposure to the cold environment, sudden changes in temperature, wear warm clothing and provide special attention to children , the elderly and the sick.
He also noted that the aforementioned meteorological systems will generate heavy point rains (25 to 50 millimeters (mm)) in Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León and northern Tamaulipas.
In addition to intervals of showers (from 5.1 to 25 mm) in Aguascalientes, Durango, Jalisco, Nayarit, San Luis Potosí, Sinaloa, Quintana Roo, Veracruz, Yucatán and Zacatecas.
Another phenomenon will be wind gusts greater than 60 kilometers per hour (km / h) in the northwest, north and the Central Table, as well as gusts of winds greater than 50 km / h in the Valley of Mexico.
It was also reported that electric shocks and strong gusts of wind are expected in the rainy areas.
The SMN pointed out that a very cold to icy environment is expected on Thursday in the Mesa del Centro, the northwest, the north and the northeast of the country.
Minimum temperatures of -15 to -10 degrees Celsius with frosts in the mountains of Chihuahua and Durango; from -10 to -5 degrees Celsius and frosts in the northern mountains of Aguascalientes, Baja California, Coahuila, northern Jalisco, Nuevo León, western San Luis Potosí, Sonora and Zacatecas.
While from -5 to 0 degrees Celsius with frosts in the mountain ranges of the State of Mexico and Tamaulipas and from 0 to 5 degrees Celsius and possible frosts in the mountainous areas of Mexico City, Guanajuato, Hidalgo, northern Michoacán, the northwest of Oaxaca, Puebla, Querétaro, Tlaxcala and Veracruz.
