Mexico and Argentina will share AstraZeneca vaccines with Latin America

Last week, the Secretary of Foreign Relations, Marcelo Ebrard, visited the laboratories in Ocoyoacac, State of Mexico, where he announced that the first batch would be ready before the end of May.

Nine months after the announcement of the agreement between Mexico and Argentina, López Obrador assured that he will soon begin delivering vaccines to other Latin American countries.

“They are already beginning to produce enough batches for Mexico and Argentina, and for other sister countries in America and the Caribbean,” he announced on Tuesday.

Through a video call, the president of Argentina, Alberto Fernández, assured that with this distribution of vaccines there will also be less dependence on other countries in the fight against COVID-19.

“We are being more independent, Mexico, Argentina and Latin America, because that agreement we made, what will allow is that Mexicans and Argentines have joined the effort, the joint work, to have vaccines for Mexicans and Argentines, but also for all our Latin American brothers, “said the president.

Of the first batch of 1,600,000 vaccines that were packaged in Mexico, next weekend 800,000 will be distributed to Argentina and the same amount will remain in Mexico to be applied.

The Mexican government has criticized the unequal access to coronavirus vaccines in the world. Last week, during his participation in the G20 World Health Summit, President López Obrador said that 50 countries have concentrated 96% of the available vaccines.
