Mexicans check social networks every 10 or 30 minutes | THE IMPARTIAL

MEXICO CITY.- In Mexico, 28% of fixed internet users check their social networks every 10 or 30 minutes during the day; and this mention was higher among men, according to the Third Survey 2020, Users of Telecommunications Services of the Federal Institute of Telecommunications (IFT).

Among fixed internet users, 46.5% of those surveyed mentioned that they check their social networks mainly at night; in this category the proportion was also higher among men.

Among mobile phone users, 26% of respondents said they check their social networks every three hours or more.

The main social networks that users use are Facebook with 95% of fixed internet users and 93% of mobile phone users; WhatsApp / Skype with 75% of fixed internet users and 93% of mobile phone users.

In third place is Instagram with 40% of fixed internet users and 36% of mobile phone users.

Mexicans mostly share funny memes or images and videos on WhatsApp / Skype and Facebook.

Whereas, on Instagram and Snapchat they mainly publish photos of themselves or of friends and family.

In the case of Twitter, they mainly publish videos, articles, news and sports.

Although 71% of users mentioned that they have a private configuration of their profile in social networks, the study identified that some aspects are perceived that they dislike or worry about, ranging from intrinsic factors of the tool such as false information, obscene publications, to risks to which they are exposed such as cyberbullying, cyberbullying and extortion, among others.

Likewise, the users who mentioned that they access social networks mainly through cell phones with 89% of the responses were women.

On the other hand, the survey participants feel that “their data and publications are safe because in their social networks they only have acquaintances and in some cases their profile is private.”

The private profile is predominant among Instagram and Twitter users.
