Metropolis New York begins to ease the corona crisis

In the first of four two-week relaxation phases, construction work can then be resumed and non-system-relevant shops can sell their goods, for example, from the front door. In the fourth phase, cultural institutions, among other things, may then reopen. The metropolis was the last of ten regions in the state of New York to meet all seven conditions for the start of the relaxation phases – for example, sufficient free hospital beds and sufficient tests. Hygiene and distance rules continue to apply. If the numbers worsen, the process can be stopped or rolled back at any time.

Around 400,000 people infected with corona in the state of New York

In the state of New York with around 19 million inhabitants, almost 400,000 people were infected with the coronavirus, more than 30,000 of whom died after being infected. Around two thirds of these come from the densely populated metropolis of New York, where around half of the state’s residents live – it became the epicenter of the pandemic in the United States.

Recently there had been fewer and fewer new infections, the number of deaths per day fell from around 800 a few weeks ago to less than 50, as announced by Governor Andrew Cuomo.
