Met Opera Hosts March 14 Concert to Aid Ukraine – NBC New York (47)

The Metropolitan Opera will organize a benefit concert on March 14 as part of the relief efforts in Ukraine. The event will be broadcast on radio around the world.

Music director Yannick Nézet-Séguin will lead a program that will feature Ukrainian bass-baritone Vladyslav Buialskyi and the Met choir on the Ukrainian national anthem and “A Prayer for Ukraine,” a choral work by Ukrainian composer Valentin Silvestrov.

The 70-minute program will also include Samuel Barber’s Adagio for Strings, “Va, pensiero” from Verdi’s Nabucco, soprano Lise Davidsen in Richard Strauss’s Vier letzte Lieder (Last Four Songs) and the finale of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. with Davidsen, mezzo-soprano Jamie Barton, tenor Piotr Beczała and bass-baritone Ryan Speedo Green.

“I hope that this special concert will show our unwavering support for the suffering people of Ukraine,” Nézet-Séguin said Monday.

Tickets are $50. The concert will be broadcast on the European Broadcasting Union, Sirius XM and on the Met’s website.
