The six-time Ballon d’Or Lionel Messi offered himself a double during Barça’s 4-0 success in Granada on Saturday in La Liga.
After scoring the 2nd goal of the Blaugranas with an unstoppable strike (32nd), Lionel Messi again made the nets tremble 10 minutes later, on a well placed free kick (42nd). “La Pugla” leads the scorers’ standings with 11 goals, one more than Villarreal striker Gerard Moreno.
Messi who scores from a free kick is not such a frequent image, since the Argentine genius is known to have one of the worst free kick conversion ratios for many years. He had not scored since July 16 on a free kick, after no less than 71 failed attempts in this exercise in 28 matches!

Note also that Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have much the same stats on free kicks. Of his 719 career goals in pro, with the Barça and the Argentine selection, the native of Rosario scored 54 from a free kick. “CR7”, he, who has hit 758 times since his debut, does a little better with 56 free kicks.
