Messenger Signal: Delays due to server failures

“A couple of our servers were confused and thought they would have Sunday free too,” Signal wrote in an apology on Twitter. The tweet comes after users complained about late messages. It’s not the first time Signal has had problems – especially since a large number of people switched from WhatsApp to the alternative messenger.

At the beginning of the year, Facebook’s subsidiary caused a lot of confusion about new terms of use and a privacy policy for WhatsApp to migrate. Among other things, Tesla boss Elon Musk had touted Signal, as had whistleblower Edward Snowden years earlier.

Signal offers end-to-end encryption of messages and calls, just like WhatsApp now. However, there is no company like Facebook in the background, which is repeatedly suspected of exchanging metadata from the messenger with those of all Facebook companies for advertising purposes. WhatsApp recently asserted not to share any contact details. One campaign page said, “We believe that people want apps that are both reliable and secure. WhatsApp only needs a limited amount of data to do so.”

However, Signal had already collapsed under the load at the beginning of the year – the registration system was overloaded, new users could not verify themselves. The messenger provider immediately went to great lengths to solve the bottleneck. Since then, however, there have always been minor and major failures. Accordingly, more and more people on Twitter are reacting to the new problems with less understanding than before. “When will your problems finally end?” Is not just a question of a Twitter user. However, the answers also contain references to the possibility of donating time and money to Signal in order to do your part for the solution.
