Merkel: ‘Another 8 billion euros needed to develop corona vaccine’ | NOW

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has Saturday in her weekly podcast stresses that an additional EUR 8 billion is needed to develop a corona vaccine.

The German leader believes that much international cooperation is needed in the search for drugs and vaccines to fight the coronavirus.

The Federal Chancellor made the statements in view of a digital donor conference on May 4.

This initiative has been initiated by the European Commission, with the aim of raising money for, among other things, a vaccine. Merkel announced that Germany plans to make a major financial contribution.

On Thursday, Merkel and her French colleague Emmanuel Macron already argued in favor of accelerating the development of a vaccine against COVID-19. Both leaders also underlined that the vaccine should be available to everyone without favoring the country it develops.
