ROMA – Mercedes-Benz will almost call back a million old models ofauto – 993.407, to be exact – due to possible brake problems. The German press agency writes it Dpaciting the automobile authority Kba.
The affected models were produced between 2004 and 2015 and around 70,000 of them are in Germany. They belong, in particular, to the ML and GL SUV series. The recall also affects the R-Class luxury minivans
According to Dpa, the problem is related to the corrosion of the brake booster which can lead to a break in the connection between the pedal and the brake system.
Mercedes-Benz confirms the recall to another agency, France Press: “In rare cases of very severe corrosion, it might be possible that particularly strong or abrupt braking cause mechanical damage to the brake booster, whereby the connection between the brake pedal and the brake system would fail, “says Mercedes.
“In such a rare case, it would not be possible to decelerate the vehicle with the service brake. Therefore, it would increase the risk of an accident or injury.” The automaker claimed that “will start immediately with the recall” and will contact the owners of the “potentially affected vehicles”.
“The recall process will involve inspecting potentially affected vehicles and, depending on the inspection results, replacing parts where necessary,” says the group, which asks customers to “do not drive vehicles” until inspection.
