Arriving on the same platform as last year’s classic C-Class, its practicality wants to be an alternative to the station wagon again. Mercedes says the new GLC will have a “variable space”, as indicated by the sliding rear seats, a feature common to many SUVs and crossovers that has been missing from the GLC.

Mercedes also confirms that the GLC will receive the latest version of the MBUX infotainment and a “fully digitized” cockpit, which probably means borrowing a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and a vertically positioned 11.9-inch touch screen modeled on the current “cec”.

Technical details remain unconfirmed, but Mercedes said the GLC will come standard with 4Matic all-wheel drive. All engines will have some kind of hybrid support.

We can expect the powertrains to match exactly those available in the C-Class, which means 2-liter supercharged four-cylinder units with mild-hybrid support, and plug-in hybrids with mains charging options.
