Max Verstappen crashed heavily in the Grand Prix of Great Britain after a touch with Lewis Hamilton, for which Hamilton was penalized by the race management with a time penalty of ten seconds and two penalty points on his license.
During and after the race, however, Hamilton was particularly attacked on social media for his actions on and off the track. Racist slogans were not shunned, something Mercedes strongly condemns in a statement.
“During and after the British Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton was the victim of racial misconduct after a collision during the race. Formula 1, the FIA and the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team condemn this behavior in the strongest possible way. These people don’t belong. at home in our sport and we insist that the perpetrators are held accountable.”
“Formula 1, the FIA, the drivers and the teams are working together on a more diverse sport, in which inclusiveness has a place. Such online misconduct must be addressed and banned.”
