Members of the organization La Clé en éducation populaire exhibit their works

EVENTS. Maskinongé MP Simon Allaire received participants from the La Clé program in popular education last Friday at his constituency office in Louiseville. They took part in the opening of the works on which they worked as part of the program, and they maintain that it was an honor for them to have been able to be exposed to the cultural space of the deputy.

Under the theme “What is happiness for you”, teacher Marie-Ève Dargis set up a creative painting workshop with the aim of bringing real events to life for the participants, those who were riveted to their screens for two years because of the pandemic. “There are students who are going back to school, others who are in literacy. It was really about getting people to work together, and really being in a positive spirit,” says Ms. Dargis.

A book has been written recounting the experience of each of the participants, as well as the steps they took to accomplish their works. For Roxanne Armstrong-Depuis, it was an exceptional moment to share her knowledge with illiterate people and then reveal it to the public.

“It’s a great sense of accomplishment for me to be here today,” she said. “I finished secondary 5 this year, so it happened towards the end of my course, it’s very satisfying. »

Katy Grenier, who decided to do a Halloween painting, emphasizes her attachment to this fall celebration. “Anything horror, it comes looking for us in my family. We like to dress up, we have a Halloween dinner, and each object in the painting represents a person. »

“This experience gave me a lot of self-confidence. Even though it took me several years to finish high school, I did it anyway. »

MNA Simon Allaire explains that he was first approached by Marie-Ève Dargis, who saw this opportunity to exhibit the works as a good way to promote the work of the participants. He was very enthusiastic about the idea of collaborating. “That was the objective of this cultural space, to promote the citizens of Maskinongé in many ways. It’s a little different today, but it’s just as good a way to do it,” said Simon Allaire.

The paintings will be exhibited until July, and parents and relatives of participants will be invited to come and admire them during office opening hours.
