Loïc Meillard makes another attempt at his second podium in a World Cup slalom. After the first run of the second race in Flachau, the Romand is in 5th place.

Meillard lost 35 hundredths of a second to the leading Norwegian Sebastian Foss-Solevaag, while the Austrians who were also ahead of him, the surprising Fabio Gstrein, Manuel Feller, Saturday’s winner, and Marco Schwarz, were only a touch faster.

Meillard had already created a similarly good starting position a week earlier in Adelboden. As third after the first round, he finished fifth – with four hundredths behind on the podium and 19 hundredths on the winner Black. In slalom, Meillard has so far been on the podium. A good two years ago he finished second in Saalbach-Hinterglemm.

Luca Aerni confirms recent achievements

Luca Aerni was able to convince again. The Bernese, who fought his way back to the top 30 riders in the World Cup starting list on Saturday with a splendid 8th place, lost six tenths to Foss-Solevaag, who had not yet won the World Cup.

Ramon Zenhäusern, Tanguy Nef, who made time-consuming mistakes, and Daniel Yule, who did not go to the limit after his failure on Saturday, take a mortgage of 1.1 to 1.3 seconds into the second run. Sandro Simonet missed the qualification.

Celebrities are also among those who have left. The Frenchman Clément Noël, who was clearly the fastest on the first half of the route, and the German Linus Strasser, the winner of the slalom in Zagreb, did not finish.
