“The problems of the farmers are not from yesterday and the other day. They were clear already in June 2023, when the new government took office,” he told BNT this morning Meglena Plugchieva, diplomat and former deputy minister of agriculture in the Saxe-Coburg government and deputy prime minister in the Stanishev government.
She recalled that as early as last summer, farmers demanded legal changes and a stop to dumping imports from Ukraine. He also recalled the words of Academician Denkov at the farmers’ first protest in September: “I do not negotiate with terrorists.”
Regarding the protests of last week, she asked, “Didn’t it become clear to you that what was agreed could not last?”
According to Plugchieva, the agreement that will be prepared today between the branch workers and the executive power should have been prepared after analysis by the large administration of the Ministry of agriculture and the foods. There should have been concrete texts as a draft instead of preparing the agreement today and signing it tomorrow.
“This is an absolutely frivolous attitude towards this sector, which is strategic and concerns food security,” said Meglena Plugchieva sharply.
She agreed with one of the reasons for the protests – the green climate terror that was implemented in the European Union. “But we have specifics. Apart from dumped imports from third countries, we have a lack of markets in third countries. What did this government do to have markets?” asked Plugchieva, who was proposed as deputy prime minister and eco minister in the Gabrovski cabinet of the GERB-SDS.
Continuing with her criticism of the Ministry of Agriculture, Plugchieva added that for 7 months nothing has been done regarding the legislation and that projects are yet to be submitted for public discussion.
The Ukrainian aid of BGN 420 million should have been invested in the national budget, and money should not be sought now from the “Agriculture” fund, which means that there will be coordination with Brussels.
Plugchieva’s most serious accusation against the authorities was that the sectors are divided and opposed, and that an attempt is made to oppose the entire sector of society. “I find that grossly undignified!” she fumed.
