Mega Billion Dollar Deal? Přerovská Meopta is apparently for sale | Company | News | Olomouc gossip

According to Hospodářské noviny, the Přerov Meopta company is for sale, it should be an unprecedented volume transaction. The company, which manufactures optical products for military, industrial and consumer use, posted record sales and profits last year. However, it could be taken over by one of the well-known German competitors.

According to the sources of Hospodářské noviny, the German company Carl Zeiss is among those seriously interested in buying Meopta. Information on the possible sale was provided by the specialized platform Mergermarket. According to other sources, there may be more bidders for Meopta, including from the United States of America. “We assume that it is a foreign strategic investor in the field of optics and optoelectronics”, said for HN.cz CEO of Patria Corporate Finance Marek Rehberger.

From the point of view of the Czech market, this should be a deal of extraordinary proportions. The deal is expected to be consulted by the prestigious consultancy firm Deloitte, but like Meopta it declined to comment on the matter to reporters.

According to Mark Rehberger, the value of the Meopta group, which includes the American part of Meopta USA and the Přerov Meopta-optika company, could exceed one billion dollars. At the current exchange rate, it is around 25 billion crowns. Meopta-optika alone sold over 3.6 billion crowns last year and a profit of over 800 million. The company managed to develop orders in the semiconductor industry and planned further investments.

Meopta-optika has changed its business strategy in recent years. “Today it is primarily a technology company providing optical-industrial solutions and industrial applications for, for example, the semiconductor industry or healthcare. The production of sports and military optics now accounts for only ten percent of the sales volume.” said CEO Alena Moore in the company’s annual report.

The main shareholder of Meopta-optika was a Czech American for many years Paul Rausnitz. He died in 2018 at the age of 90. Since then, the Přerov company has been owned by the grandson of the previous owner Gerald Rausnitz and his son David Rausnitz. Meopta-optika employed an average of 1,752 workers last year.
