He studied for a doctorate at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University before taking a break from school in 2018 to swim. After rigorous training, he finally reached the A standard for the 50-meter freestyle in 21.97 seconds in 2021 and qualified for the Tokyo Olympics. He became the first male swimmer in Hong Kong to directly qualify for the Olympics with the A standard.
At this Asian Games in Hangzhou, Ho Zhentao won the silver medal in the men’s 50-meter freestyle. Not only was he the first international medal in his swimming career, it also made him the first Hong Kong male swimmer to win an individual medal in the Asian Games in 25 years: “After 21 years of swimming, I will also follow the Hong Kong team for a while and finally be able to win glory for Hong Kong.” His next goal is to achieve good results at the World Championships in Doha next year and to win tickets for the Paris Olympics.
Martial Arts Mo Wanying (Juanita)
The flag-bearers at this year’s Asian Games include rugby veteran Yao Jincheng, who played for the last time in the Asian Games, and female martial arts athlete Mo Wanying (Juanita). Mo Wanying is 28 years old this year. She started learning martial arts at the age of 8, starting with practicing Changquan. Later, she learned Tai Chi from world champion Li Hui in 2007.
