Chairman of “United Russia” Dmitry Medvedev invited his party colleagues to discuss with members of the government and trade unions the idea of introducing a guaranteed income for citizens in the country. Medvedev noted that such models already exist in some countries. As the chairman of the United Russia Party recalled, the coronavirus pandemic has shown how important it is to support people in order to maintain social stability. He stressed that the idea of a guaranteed income should be analyzed “as carefully” as possible from an economic and financial point of view. “We need, of course, to conform to the situation that we have today, in 2020, and nevertheless look to the future – I have in view of the preparations for the elections in 2021, “Medvedev concluded. On the eve of the establishment of a basic income for the unemployed, the head of the economic committee suggested Federation Council Andrey Kutepov… He explained that this is a regular payment of a fixed amount. It is assumed that this will provide a person with a minimum level of consumption of goods, services and information, regardless of the type of activity and socio-economic situation. Kutepov noted that during the coronavirus pandemic, the amount of unemployment benefits was raised to the subsistence level, but this measure was insufficient.
