Medvedev called for a revision of the approach to regulating labor relations

The leader of United Russia and Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev called for a fresh look at the regulation of labor relations because of the crisis associated with the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. According to him, employment services in a number of regions are inefficient, and the party receives a lot of complaints about various violations of labor laws.

“Obviously, we will have to take a different look at the regulation of labor relations,” Mr Medvedev said during a meeting on Friday, May 1 (quoted by RIA Novosti). He noted that after quarantine was lifted, it would be necessary to return to the adjustment of labor legislation, having analyzed the experience gained in a pandemic.

The leader of United Russia also said that between May 6 and 12 he will personally conduct online reception of citizens whose labor rights are violated. “We are talking about the dismissal of people, about forcing them to work under conditions unacceptable during a pandemic when elementary safety standards are not respected. With someone from the people who now have such problems, we could talk and try to help. I hope that I have not completely lost my skills as a lawyer and I could recommend some reasonable things, ”said Dmitry Medvedev.

According to him, in some regions, governors “couldn’t even solve elementary tasks” with ensuring employment. In this regard, in each region, a special labor commission should now be created with the participation of representatives of regional authorities, employment services, trade unions and business associations. “It will be necessary to analyze the real situation and evaluate it not only by the number of people who are registered on the labor exchange,” the deputy chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation emphasized.

Recall, according to official statistics from Rosstat, the number of unemployed in Russia in March amounted to 3.5 million people, the unemployment rate reached 4.7%. The head of the Accounts Chamber, Alexei Kudrin, said that unemployment in Russia could jump to 7-8%, in the worst case, up to 10%, which would affect from 6 million to 9 million people. The head of the Ministry of Labor, Anton Kotyakov, called the scenario with 5-6 million unemployed people real, but, according to him, now there is a tendency to maintain employment. On April 17, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed a decree on unemployment benefits, setting a maximum amount of 12,130 rubles.
