Medicines: the Competition Council declares war on multinationals! | | Consonews

In a recent report, the Competition Council drew up a diagnosis which was, to say the least, critical of the drug market in Morocco. This is in particular its concentration around a handful of operators, which naturally has repercussions on the consumer’s access margins to the drug, both in terms of quality and in terms of price.

In this sense, the Council indicates in a press release relayed by the MAP that it is “a market which remains narrow with a low consumption of drugs not exceeding on average 450 dirhams per inhabitant and per year, whereas qu ‘it is 3000 DH in Europe’.

On the other hand, the low level of medical coverage means that the Moroccan consumer pays full price for care and the purchase of medicines. Thus, the level of household participation in health spending is almost double the world average: 48% against 25%.

The Guerraoui Council seems to attribute this anomaly among other things to the weakness of the supply of generics: a penetration rate of generics which does not exceed 40% while the world average is around 60%.

Solution: encourage the creation of national champions who are able to address the local market under suitable conditions of quality and purchasing power.

What about multinationals ?!
