New York (AP) – The actress Emma Bading went empty-handed at the award ceremony of the International Emmys. Bading, born in Monheim am Rhein in 1998, was nominated for her role in the ARD film “Play” in the “Best Actress Performance” category, but had to admit defeat to her British colleague Glenda Jackson at the start of the award ceremony on Monday. Jackson was recognized for her role in the television drama “Elizabeth Is Missing”.

Germany initially had another chance in the “best drama series” category, in which the second season of the historic ARD hospital series “Charité” was nominated.

Because of the coronavirus pandemic, the prize gala for non-American productions took place largely online this time. Actor Richard Kind moderated from a stage in New York – in front of an “absolutely gigantic empty auditorium”. The nominees were connected via video from all over the world.

The International Emmys, which are awarded in eleven categories, may not have the glamor of the US prizes awarded in Los Angeles, but are still very popular. Last year, Germany went away empty-handed after both the nominated ZDF series “Bad Banks” and actor Jannis Niewöhner had to give way to the competition.
