Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Businesses Give Poor Marks to Administration Digitization

Entrepreneurs in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania have given digitization in administration poor marks. This is the result of a survey by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK). Of the 275 companies surveyed, more than two thirds (71 percent) rated the digitalization of administrative processes with a school grade of 4 or worse. The IHK justified the poor rating by saying that the documentation required by law is constantly becoming more extensive. At the same time, the exchange between companies and administration has not yet been digitized in many places, as it was said. According to the IHK, this increases the time required for entrepreneurs.

“The clear goal must be a complete and comprehensive network of administrations,” said the President of the Rostock Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Jürgen Strupp, according to the statement. “Once data has been collected, it must also be available to other administrative institutions.” This applies at the local level, but also at the state and federal levels.

Another difficulty in the area of digitalization was cited by 63 percent of those surveyed as legal uncertainty and 56 percent as technical obstacles. For a third, the internet connection at work is not sufficient. Only 16 percent said broadband coverage had improved since 2020.

But there is also good news: 69 percent of companies reported that they were already using digitalization to work more flexibly. 65 percent say they increase quality through digitalization.
