McDonald’s Restaurants Experience System Outage, Customers Affected
LOS ANGELES – System Failures Impact McDonald’s Restaurants Worldwide
System failures at McDonald’s were reported worldwide Friday, leading to the temporary closure of several restaurants and leading to customer complaints on social media. The fast-food chain acknowledged a “technology outage” and assured the public that the issue is being resolved.
Technology Outage
McDonald’s Corp, based in Chicago, confirmed that the system failures experienced by their restaurants were not the result of a cybersecurity attack. However, the company did not provide further details regarding the cause of the outage.
Apologies for Inconvenience
In a statement, McDonald’s said, “We are aware of a technology outage, which impacted our restaurants; the issue is now being resolved. We thank customers for their patience and apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.”
Impacted Locations
McDonald’s in Japan reported that the system failure temporarily affected their stores nationwide. In Hong Kong, a computer system failure resulted in the inability to place orders online or through self-serve kiosks. Downdetector, an outage tracker, also reported a spike in problems with the McDonald’s app during the same period.
Restoring Operations
Following the outage, several McDonald’s restaurants, including those in Bangkok, Milan, London, and Los Angeles, have resolved the issues and resumed normal operations.
