McDonald’s donuts: we tried them

This Monday, June 29, the giant of the fast food, McDonald’s, announced to make great competition at Tim Hortons throwing five kinds of mini donuts across the country.

In addition to offering breakfasts all day long as well as a McCafé counter, you will now be able to go through the restaurant renowned for its Big Mac for much more than burgers.

Apple donut, rainbow donut, sprinkled strawberry jelly donut, maple glazed caramel donut and Boston cream donut have just made their debut. Their size and look super instagrammable quickly aroused curiosity.

These donuts are just under three inches in diameter, a little smaller than a hockey puck (universal size indicator in Canada, let’s say).

They are therefore perfect for those who want a little sweet bite, or even those who hesitate between two kinds in the morning and do not want to buy two large pastries.

At Narcity Quebec, we sacrificed ourselves for the cause and we took the initiative to taste these five little wonders to tell you if it’s really worth the investment.

All tastes are in nature, and we see it with our very different records from each other:

Me :

1- Apple donut
2- Maple glazed caramel donut
3- Bsprout of strawberry jelly sprinkled
4- Boston cream donut

5- Rainbow donut

My colleague :

1- Apple donut
2- Rainbow donut
3- Bsprout of strawberry jelly sprinkled
4- Maple glazed caramel donut
5- Boston cream donut

The apple donut

It is unanimous, it is the best, in our opinion. It is very soft and tastes of apples, without being too sweet like those of some shops.

Maple glazed caramel donut

I put it in my top, even if I don’t like maple very much, because it’s one of the best maple donuts I’ve eaten.

If you like this famous Canadian delight and very sweet tastes, it’s a must. The maple taste is very pronounced, a bit like maple butter on top of the donut and the garnish is a bit like caramel.

Strawberry jelly donut sprinkled

We both put this one in third position. It is good and fluffy. It is not disappointing, but is not WOW. It remains a classic classic, a sprinkled donut.

For my part, I really liked the strawberry filling since it has a subtle and fruity taste; I find it better than that of the Tim Hortons. My colleague found that it is less tasty than that of the popular donut trade.

Boston cream donut

I found the suit better than that of the Tim Hortons, or very similar. However, I would not give it a better position in my ranking since chocolate has a pretty artificial taste. I also found it a little dry compared to the other donuts.

The rainbow donut

Compared to other sweet and stuffed donuts, this donut is less fluffy and drier, so I didn’t like it very much.

However, my colleague loves colored vermicelli and this donut has fulfilled her desires.

They are sold at a cost of $ 0.99 each, two for $ 1.79, six for $ 4.99 or twelve for $ 9.49, plus applicable taxes.

In the end, I would say that I recommend them, especially for their size just small enough to fill a sugar rage without “sugar rush”. I liked that they look like the photo for real, which is often not the case with the fast food.
