The owner of OM seized the Dutch justice to obtain 169 million euros which were promised to him. In a dispute that has nothing to do with football and the Marseille city club, the American Frank McCourt is suing the German businessman Lars Windhorst, also known to be the majority shareholder from Hertha Berlin. At the heart of the conflict: the sale of 50% of the company managing the Global Champions Tour, an international horse show jumping competition.
Windhorst ordered to pay 30 million euros
According to information from Luxembourg television RTL Z, Frank McCourt has held 50% of this tournament since 2014. Lars Windhorst, through his investment fund Tennor, wanted to buy these shares. But the Covid-19 pandemic made him change his mind. He would be worried about the economic consequences of the crisis on the prestigious competition, which had to cancel events.
Lars Windhorst then wished to question this sale, without the agreement of Frank McCourt who therefore decided to take the case to court. According to the findings reported by RTL Z, the process was almost complete. Only the signing of the final contract was missing, when a letter of intent had been initialed, a joint press release had been issued and the necessary documents had been approved. Consequently, the Dutch courts have already ordered Lars Windhorst to pay 30 million euros. But the legal proceedings would not be finished.
