Kylian Mbappé has informed the leaders of Paris Saint Germain (PSG) that he will leave this summer, as reported this Thursday by the French press, in a new episode of the tortuous management of his future.

The newspaper L’Équipe, which was among the quickest to publish the news, insisted that with this news the soap opera about its continuity in Paris “has ended.”

«After long months of uncertainty, Kylian Mbappé has announced to the PSG board that he has decided to leave the club this summer. The striker announced his decision on Tuesday at the Poissy training center », reports the sports newspaper.

Other French media also confirmed that Mbappé conveyed his decision to the president of PSG, Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, such as the public channel FranceInfo, the private RMC Sport or the newspaper Le Parisien, very close to the club.

The specific details of the departure from Paris of the captain of the French team are not known, although the French press favors the hypothesis of a future at Real Madrid, once his contract with PSG ends on June 30.

Le Parisien, although it had already announced at the beginning of this month that Mbappé’s destination would be Madrid, points out that the 25-year-old star has not yet reached a contractual agreement with the merengue team.

The young forward has been free to negotiate with any club since January 1, after having renounced the optional third year that he signed with PSG in 2022.

To Madrid on the fourth attempt?

If confirmed, Real Madrid would take Mbappé on their fourth attempt, without now having to pay a transfer fee to PSG since the player would arrive free, although the forward will probably obtain a transfer bonus.

In 2017 he tried to acquire the services of a promising 19-year-old footballer trained at Monaco, but PSG took the lead after paying the Principality club 180 million euros, the second most expensive transfer in history.

In the 2021 winter market, Florentino Pérez put 180 million euros on the table to acquire a player who was ending his contract with PSG six months later, but the Qatari owners of the Parisian team rejected the offer.

At that time, they managed to convince him to renew his commitment to Paris for two years, plus one as an option. A call from President Emmanuel Macron helped the French star stay in Paris.

After having completed those two years of contract, Mbappé wrote to the PSG management to indicate that he would not activate his third optional year, which caused a real storm in the team and led to the forward being provisionally removed from the club’s discipline during the last preseason.

The club’s president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, urged him to renew or leave then so that he could leave some money in his coffers. Finally both parties reached an agreement by which the footballer renounced part of his loyalty bonuses and was able to play with the team again.

Al-Khelaifi, for his part, had always publicly expressed his will and – at least to the public – his optimism to keep Mbappé as the big star of the squad.

The news of the departure of the number 7 came just one day after PSG left their qualification for the quarterfinals of the Champions League on track by beating Real Sociedad 2-0 at home, with Mbappé as the author. of the first goal.

In the run-up to the match, rumors suggested that this duel would be key in the communication strategy that the forward would choose, since he could use a victory to soften the hard blow that his departure will mean for PSG and its fans. EFE
