Biden calls for immediate approval of military aid to Ukraine – 2024-02-18 12:23:21

EA3146. WASHINGTON (UNITED STATES), 02/07/2023.- The President of the United States, Joe Biden, delivers his State of the Union address to a joint session of Congress in the House of Representatives of the United States Capitol, today, in Washington. This Tuesday, Biden called for dialogue between Republicans and Democrats in the US Congress, since, he warned, “the conflict leads nowhere.” “Fighting for the sake of fighting, conflict for the sake of conflict, gets us nowhere,” the president said in his speech to the representatives of the two chambers, to whom he gave a clear message: “if we were able to work together in the last Congress, there’s no reason we can’t work together on this and find consensus.” EFE/ Michael Reynolds

The president of USA, Joe Bidenurged this Tuesday the Republican leadership in the House of Representatives to approve “immediately” the economic package with 60,000 million dollars in military aid for Ukraine.

«I urge the (Lower) House to move forward on this urgently. We cannot afford to wait any longer. The costs of inaction increase every day»the US president said in a statement.

The bill is for 95.3 billion dollars and in addition to the 60,000 for Ukraine it includes 14,000 for Israel, among other priorities.

“We are already seeing reports that Ukrainian troops are running out of ammunition on the front lines as Russian forces continue to attack.”Biden warned.

Since the war in Ukraine began almost two years ago, the United States has sent nearly $75 billion in military aid, but those funds approved by Congress have been exhausted and that is why the White House has been demanding the new package for months.

Biden defended that the United States’ alliances with other countries “matter” even though some Republicans say otherwise and that if Congress does not approve the money, both allies and adversaries “will take note.”

“It’s time for the House to act and send this bipartisan bill to my desk immediately so I can sign it into law”he concluded.

The United States Senate approved the economic package this Tuesday after a long day and weeks of political drama by 70 votes in favor and 29 against.

The Republican leadership in the Lower House, however, has said that it does not plan to put the project to a vote, since it opposes continuing to finance the war in Ukraine without important counterparts in immigration matters.

Democrats, for their part, defend that the project be put to a vote, since they believe that if that happens, it will go ahead despite the opposition of some Republicans.

The former president and Republican candidate for the White House Donald Trump (2017-2021) also opposes any type of agreement with the Democrats. EFE (I)
