Mayors ‘quite positive’ about compliance with the duty to mask masks | NOW

Mayors are “quite positive” about compliance with the masking duty that took effect on December 1. That said Hubert Bruls, chairman of the Security Council, on Monday evening after the meeting with the mayors.

In a number of regions, according to Bruls, checks were carried out at supermarkets with special investigating officers (boas). “That gave a picture of very good compliance behavior,” he says. “We are quite positive about that.”

According to Bruls, fines have been issued in a “handful” of regions for non-compliance with the masking requirement. Until December 1, wearing a mouth mask in a public indoor space was an urgent advice, but that turned into a duty at the beginning of this month. Failure to comply with this obligation can result in a fine of 95 euros.

It is not surprising that the duty is generally properly observed, according to the mayor of Nijmegen. “We are well prepared for it,” said Bruls. “I think people were already very much into it. I don’t even rule out that people didn’t notice a difference between November 30 and December 1.”

Tuesday clarity about measures for Christmas

During the meeting of the Security Council, ministers Ferd Grapperhaus (Justice and Security) and Hugo de Jonge (Public Health) updated the 25 chairpersons of the security regions about a possible relaxation of corona measures during Christmas.

According to Bruls, relaxation is not to be expected. “We can all see how the infection figures have risen and you can express the expectation that there will not be much relaxation. Then you are not a clairvoyant.”

Both Grapperhaus and De Jonge did not want to elaborate too much on a possible relaxation. On Tuesday at 7 p.m., the cabinet will announce more about the corona measures that apply during Christmas during a press conference.
