Mayors in the east of the Netherlands are angry about a leaked list, which shows that the police no longer want to invest much energy in minor offenses such as shoplifting, fraud and animal abuse. The directors want to have a serious discussion about this with the police and the Public Prosecution Service.
“It cannot be the case that the police and the Public Prosecution Service set aside the Penal Code. They’re not about that. This scares me,” says mayor Mark Boumans of Doetinchem.
He responds an article today from The Gelderlander about an internal document of the police and the Public Prosecution Service in East Netherlands. This is in the hands of The Gelderlander. It lists very concretely which matters will receive no or less attention, such as animal abuse, fraud up to 2,000 euros and refueling without paying.
