Mayor Heerlen angry with invading vaccination location: ‘Borders crossed’

Mayor Roel Wever of the municipality of Heerlen is angry with activists who invaded a vaccination location in the city. “I think this is absolutely not possible.”

Protesters made a scene this afternoon at a location of the GGD. The activists argued that the GGD employees are guilty of murder. They had a heated discussion with the staff present and there was a scuffle. The demonstrators refused to leave the building, after which the police were called.

According to the mayor, people are allowed to demonstrate and have freedom of expression. “But it can’t be that people are being attacked. I think this has really crossed all boundaries,” he tells 1Limburg† Frank Klaassen of the GGD South Limburg is also furious. “Our employees have been working seven days a week to help people for two years now. That deserves respect.”

Slander and libel

Wever says he is in contact with the police and the Public Prosecution Service. According to him, a complaint has been filed. “I want this to be addressed and these people to be convicted. I don’t care for what. But you can’t hit or accuse anyone of genocide. This looks like libel and slander.”

According to Wever, the employees were threatened and filmed without permission. “They say: ‘You are responsible. You have to pay, even hang.’ He has no words for attacking people who help others to stay healthy. “Have we gone mad in this country?”
