On Saturday, the so-called freedom convoy plans to demonstrate in Oslo. They demand that no corona measures be introduced again and that corona certificates not be used in Norway.

In the Facebook group of the Norwegian activists, there are over 27,000 members.

According to a press release, the freedom convoy consists of 500 vehicles. They will drive into Oslo and meet outside NRK on Marienlyst on Saturday morning.

After this, they will probably move on to other media houses in Oslo, before they meet at the Storting center on Saturday afternoon.

The demonstrations are inspired by the convoys in Canada where a number of trucks have blocked roads in Ottawa.

May not drive into the center of Oslo

Several appeals, music performances and torchlight processions will be planned outside the Storting. The demonstration will take place for several hours on Saturday afternoon.

Basically, they were to drive into the Storting. But the police have decided that no vehicles will be involved in the demonstrations in the city center.

– The reason for this is that there will be two other markings in front of the Storting this day, and that a larger number of vehicles in central Oslo can to a large extent affect other traffic, including the accessibility of emergency services, says chief of staff at Oslo police district Harald Nilssen to VG .

Arrangements have been made for the demonstrators to be allowed to speak outside both the media houses and the Storting, as long as they do not obstruct the emergency services’ accessibility, damage traffic challenges or major disturbances.

– There may be some limited accessibility and traffic challenges around the area they are to mark. It is always nice to show patience if there are any traffic challenges during the day, Nilssen says.

Awaiting large attendance

VG spoke to one of the organizers of the Norwegian freedom convoy earlier this week, Ann Helen Gjermundsen.

Gjermundsen then said that she expects a large turnout outside the Storting, up to 2000 people.

First and foremost, they are demonstrating against the introduction of corona certificates.

– We demand that no corona certificate be introduced in Norway. It is discriminatory, says Gjermundsen to VG.

Inspired by demonstrations in Canada

The demonstrations with vehicles started in Canada. Truck drivers blocked one of the busiest roads between the United States and Canada.

Several thousand people have demonstrated against corona rules, especially the requirement for vaccination to cross the border.

The Ottawa rapporteur stated state of emergency and a court came with orders to end the demonstrations.

According to the news agency AP Ottawa police have arrested at least 100 people in connection with the protests. A number of vehicles have also been towed away.

The demonstrations in Canada have been going on for over three weeks.
