Max Verstappen, Colton Herta’s F1 super license problem[F1-Gate.com]

F1 champion Max Verstappen has said Colton Herta has lost his F1 super-licence for the 2023 season.

IndyCar ace Colton Herta was heavily linked with an F1 seat at AlphaTauri for 2023, but has the 40 points he needs to earn the superlicense he needs to compete in F1. His hopes have been dashed why didn’t he.

Colton Herta managed just 32 points in IndyCar and despite the best efforts of Red Bull F1 motorsport adviser Helmut Marko, he was not granted an exemption by the FIA.

Colton Herta will remain with Andretti Autosport for 2023. If he wins the title, he will pass the 40-point mark and be able to challenge for the F1 seat in 2024.

Max Verstappen, whose 2015 F1 debut at the age of 17 triggered the introduction of the super license points system, says Colton Herta should win the IndyCar championship and open the doors to F1 with dignity.

“I think a lot of great drivers in the past didn’t get into F1,” Verstappen explained to NBC Motorsports.

“It’s very difficult and I don’t necessarily agree with that.”

“I think it’s necessary for some riders, but I don’t think anyone with really big talent needs to be in the junior category at 24 to score all the points.”

“It’s a difficult problem. Some people do well, but when they don’t it’s obviously very painful because they deny you the chance to get into Formula 1.”

“I think a lot of doors will open for Colton if he wins an IndyCar championship.”
