Maverick Vinales Reflects on Motorbike Chain Breaking Incident at Spanish MotoGP 2023

Jakarta

Maverick Vinales believes that anything can happen in a race, including the problem of the motorbike chain suddenly breaking during the Spanish MotoGP race in 2023. The Aprilia rider is trying to learn from this incident.

In the race at the Jerez Circuit, Spain, Sunday (30/4/2023), Maverick Vinales actually went through the race smoothly. Despite starting from 9th position, Vinales could not break into the top 5 throughout the race.

The former Suzuki and Yamaha racer competed for positions 8, 9 and 10. Vinales fought more often with Dani Pedrosa and Alex Marquez. At its peak, the rider who was born on January 12, 1995 experienced a chain breaking incident during the last round. As a result Vinales could not finish and went home without additional points.

MotoGP replays show Vinales entering a corner, suddenly the Aprilia RS-GP roars. Power from the engine to the rear wheels is not channeled because the motor chain is broken. The motorbike ends up parked on the side of the Jerez Circuit, Spain.

Vinales tries to learn from it. He believes there is a positive side from the race, the bike still has a lot of potential.

“An incident like this (a broken motorbike chain) can happen. We have to look in the mirror from a positive point of view at the weekend. We have good speed and potential. Especially at the start and duels, overall it was a very positive race,” he said quoted from Speedweek, Wednesday (3/5/2023).

On the other hand, Vinales revealed another problem with the Aprilia RS-GP motorbike. He said the front grip wears out easily so it slows down the bike.

“After a few laps my front tire was boiling with heat. As a result, from the start I was no longer able to brake well and control it in corners. That’s the problem when you ride behind another bike for a long time. The front tires wear out so quickly there, You can’t do anything about it. We have to learn to deal with it in races,” said Vinales.

The results of the Spanish MotoGP series MotoGP 2023 make Vinales currently still perched in 5th position in the temporary standings. He has collected 48 points or a difference of 39 points from the leader of the standings, Francesco Bagnaia.

Vinales also took part in the test agenda which was held at Jerez, Monday (1/5/2023). He tested components such as the clutch and front wheel control during braking.

“We tested some details on the clutch to start better. We also trained the front wheel grip under braking,” said Vinales.

By devouring 94 rounds, Vinales brought his RS-GP to 5th place or 0.390 seconds away from Macro Bezzecchi. The Ducati rider has the fastest record time of 1 minute 36.574 seconds.
