Mauléon hospital wants to separate from Oloron hospital

Will Mauléon hospital separate from Oloron? Internally, in any case, more and more voices are calling for it. The Souletin establishment and the Béarn establishment have had one and the same management since 2013 but during the last meeting of the supervisory board, several doctors expressed their desire to see the two structures separate. One of them, Christian de Gaye even resigned. As chairman of the medical commission of Mauléon hospital, he criticizes the current director of not having respected the project initial site, and to have revised the work to extend the establishment downwards. Two floors were to be built, there will ultimately only be one, and there will still be only five medicine beds instead of the ten requested.

Not enough money for the works

For his part, the director of the Oloron hospital evokes financial difficulties and an occupancy rate which does not justify the extension of the medical service. He further explains that Mauléon hospital does not have the means to be autonomous, the ARS, the regional health agency, is also of the same opinion. Doctor Christian de Gaye and other doctors are pleading for a merger with the Center Hospitalier de la Côte Basque (CHCB) via its branch in Saint-Palais.

Mauléon hospital is to date the only hospital to say “Proximity” in the departement. It has five medical beds, twenty-five consecutive care beds, and one hundred and fifty EHPAD beds.
