At least for a few months, it seemed that the Glarner family from Meiringen BE would finally come to rest after a few dramatic years. The eldest son Matthias (34), who sensationally became Schwingerkön in 2016 and miraculously survived a twelve-meter crash from a gondola roof just a year later, announced his resignation after the last federal event in Zug.
–
And his father Andreas was so well after a serious stroke that he enjoyed watching his younger son Stefan (32) play Super League games with FC Thun. But now Andreas Glarner has died of an infection with the corona virus at the age of 70.
–
«His wife Hedi works for Spitex in Meiringen. In this function, she was infected by a patient with the coronavirus. And apparently Hedi has transmitted this virus to Andreas, »an honorary member from ESV told BLICK.

Entire community of mothers mourns
Father Glarner was a great sponsor of his athletic children. “He always said: If you do something, then do it right or not at all,” Matthias once said in an interview.
–
With the Glarner family, the whole Schwingergomminde also mourns. The death of Papa Glarner is particularly close to the parents of the incumbent king of wrestlers Christian Stucki.
–
Willi Stucki on BLICK: «We had a special connection to the Glarners because we married in the church in Brienz on the exact same day. When we left the church newly married, Hedi and Andreas stepped in front of the altar. »
–
Glarners and Stuckis then became parents for the first time in the same year: On January 10, 1985 Christian Stucki saw the light of day, Matthias Glarner was born on December 19.
