FC Bayern München’s gate factory continues to produce like on an assembly line, the Champions League race becomes a three-way battle and there are numerous new Bundesliga records – the themes of match day 30.
1) FC Bayern goal factory on record course
It has existed for almost 50 years, but now FC Bayern München’s historic record is shaking tremendously: the team led by top scorer Gerd Müller scored 101 goals in the 1971/72 season, and their successors have this season after the 4-2 victory already scored 90 goals in Leverkusen. The current squad has four games left to break this record.

90 goals in 30 games – no team in the long history of the Bundesliga had achieved more at this time. Top scorer Robert Lewandowski contributed 30 of the 90 goals alone, setting his own personal best. If Lewandowski and his colleagues kept this cut, the record champions’ offensive would result in 102 goals – that would even mean a new record!
2) Bundesliga records by Müller, Wirtz, Darida and Hasebe
Four players set new Bundesliga records on matchday 30: Thomas Müller delivered his 20th goal this season with a sovereign success at Bayer Leverkusen – this is a new assist record since data was recorded in 1992/93! Even if Müller is missing next Saturday due to a yellow card suspension, he still has time for more templates after that …
Another highlight was Florian Wirtz, who is now the youngest goal scorer in Bundesliga history. The youngster from Bayer 04 Leverkusen was exactly 17 years and 34 days old when he scored the 2: 4 final result against Bayern and replaced the previous record holder Nuri Sahin (November 2005: 17 years and 82 days).
Vladimir Darida again set another Bundesliga record at the Saturday evening game between Hertha BSC and Borussia Dortmund: At 14.65 kilometers, the Czech has set a new league-wide running record since the detailed data collection. He outperformed his own record from the previous week.
And then there’s Makoto Hasebe, who played his 309th Bundesliga game (for Frankfurt, Nuremberg and Wolfsburg) in the 0-2 win against Mainz and is now the only Asian record player in Bundesliga history. He overtook the South Korean Bum-Kun Cha, who among other things also played for Eintracht Frankfurt.

3) Dortmund has Champions League in mind
The big winner of match day 30 is without a doubt Borussia Dortmund. While the competition in the fight for the Champions League, Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Mönchengladbach and RB Leipzig all left points, BVB did its homework on Saturday night in the 1-0 win over Hertha BSC. Dortmund now has a seven point lead over fifth place four games before the end. It was the eleventh success in the 13th second round game, even though the three is more likely to be a work win.
“It was not a good game for us,” said international player Julian Brandt: “But if you get such a template, you have to use it with all your might.” The player of the game was Emre Can, who represented the suspended Mats Hummels in the triple chain and acted both as a defense organizer and as a constant driver in the game. After just a few months, the international is already an absolute leader in the team of Lucien Favre.
4) Three-way battle for the Champions League
It remains exciting in the front ranks – at least in terms of Champions League qualification. With RB Leipzig (59 points, 75:32 goals), Borussia Mönchengladbach (56, 57:36) and Bayer 04 Leverkusen (56, 56:40), three teams are fighting for two remaining places. Four game days are still to be completed and there will probably be a tight race until the end.
Gladbach probably has the hardest board to drill on the next match day. For the Elf from the Lower Rhine it is against FC Bayern, who, should rival Borussia Dortmund lose, could win the German championship early with a win.

But Bayer Leverkusen also has a particularly interesting game before them: the neighborhood duel with 1. FC Köln. The Werkself are visiting FC FC on matchday 32 and will certainly not get anything for free in this game. And on the last match day, Peter Bosz’s team is expecting the 1st FSV Mainz 05, which is currently still playing for relegation. That could be another tough fight at the end of the season.
Leipzig has just felt how difficult it is to play against the teams from the table cellar (1-1 against SC Paderborn). Fortuna Düsseldorf (matchday 32) and FC Augsburg (matchday 34) are two other candidates who want to keep the class.
5) The exciting relegation battle
“If we eat grass, run to the end and throw in the duels are the recipe for relegation,” says Daniel Brosinski, “then we will continue to play until the end!” The full-back aptly describes the 2-0 victory of 1. FSV Mainz 05 at Eintracht Frankfurt. Success turns Rheinhessen into a big winner on match day 30: Achim Beierlorzer’s team is 15th in the table. and now has 31 points, Fortuna Düsseldorf was able to distance three, SV Werder Bremen even six points.
The Fortuna came after a courageous appearance against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim only 2-2 – it was already the seventh draw of the Düsseldorf in the eleventh game under coach Uwe Rösler. Under the new coach, the Rhinelanders have only lost two games and clearly improved in terms of play: The Fortuna convinces with aggressive pressing and a fast attacking switchover game. Nevertheless, the Rösler team continues to stand on the spot and remains on the relegation site.
>>> Match report: Düsseldorf and Hoffenheim split 2-2
The Bremer could have caught up with this, but against VfL Wolfsburg there was a narrow 0-1 loss for the SVW. However, the Hanseatic League remains within striking distance, just three points behind Düsseldorf. So it remains exciting in the relegation battle of the Bundesliga.
