Massive claim in Las Perlas for lack of medical care

Neighbors from Balsa las Perlas carried out a massive caravan through the area to claim for the lack of medical attention in the public health system. Around 50 vehicles crossed the main arteries of the urban center that is part of the municipality of Cipolletti.

The request for greater health coverage is an old claim in the area that was accentuated after the death of a teacher. On July 9, Andrea Ferrero died while being referred to a health center in a private car since at that time there were no ambulances or health personnel available. Despite calls to the Cipolletti hospital, attendance did not come on time.

Currently, the health center works from 7 to 22 hours. The request of the inhabitants of Las Perlas is that there be 24-hour coverage, both in medical care and in the ambulance service. Since the beginning of the isolation due to the coronavirus pandemic, this new care regime was established. Before it only worked from 7 to 17.

Local residents indicated that the director of the hospital, Claudia Muñoz, promised to resolve the demand at the end of the month. The main drawback is accommodation for health personnel. The charges are created but the housing situation remains to be resolved. Last year there were some advances to rent a home, but finally the agreement did not prosper.

Neighbors met at a corner of the Worker’s Avenue named after Daniel Viedma, a young neighborhood leader who died on June 8 of a serious illness. From there they toured various sectors of the site and returned to that point where the caravan finally dispersed. Many residents accompanied the complaint from their homes with applause and posters.

Juan Villarreal, a journalist from Las Perlas, noted that for several months, officials have been promising to resolve the situation. “In principle they were going to implement it in May, then in June. Now the commitment is that from August 1 it will be resolved,” he said. He added that the arguments of the municipal and provincial officials is that there is no logistics or budget.

It is the second claim during the pandemic. On June 9, the first caravan was held in which more than 60 vehicles participated. In addition to requesting medical attention, residents demand that progress be made with the regularization of the electrical system in neighborhoods that still do not have service.

Less than a month ago, the Rio Negro Legislature unanimously approved a communication project of the Front of All directed to the Ministry of Health so that “urgently” the necessary measures are implemented and the adequate resources are available for the protection, prevention, care and health care of the entire population.

After the teacher’s death, the opposition bank again demanded compliance with health coverage.
