A survey conducted by the Boston University School of Public Health and Sharecare, a digital health company, determined that Massachusetts is the state in the country that offers the best opportunities for well-being, that is, the healthiest.
For its part, the state of New York ranked fifth, while New Jersey reached third place and Connecticut reached ninth.
The results come from an evaluation in 2022 of 500,000 Americans, located in all 50 states. Physical, social, community, purpose and financial condition were some of the categories analyzed during the survey.
They also examined access to health care, food, resources, housing and transportation, ending with economic security.
The “financial well-being” of the United States declined in the last year
While the country maintained a very similar score to last year (60.7 on a scale of 100), financial well-being saw a significant drop.
Michael Winter, associate director of statistical programming at the Biostatistics and Epidemiology Data Analysis Center at Boston University School of Public Health, explained that inflation and current economic uncertainty would have affected financial well-being.
“This year’s report highlights the importance of addressing all aspects of well-being, which extends beyond physical health, to include financial stability and socioeconomic factors,” he said in a statement.

The only difference from last year in this top-10 is that Connecticut was ranked eighth in 2022, but this year it was surpassed by Washington.
In the general list of the 50 states, Mississippi is positioned last. It is also worth noting that Massachusetts leads the ranking for the third consecutive year, also being the best state in the access to health care category.
