After truck fire: S-Bahn traffic in Hamburg further restricted NDR.de – News

Status: 09.08.2022 10:39 a.m

A truck caught fire under the Elbbrücken S-Bahn station on Monday morning. As a result, there are still obstacles in rail traffic. The S-Bahn cannot go through and one track is still closed.

According to the S-Bahn Hamburg, lines S3 and S31 are still not running as planned. Shuttle service was set up between the Hammerbrook and Wilhelmsburg stations. An S-Bahn runs back and forth there on the shared track. The second track is still closed – and it could apparently remain so until the beginning of next week. Buses also run between Wilhelmsburg and the Elbbrücken station, where passengers can change to the U4 underground line. Subway and long-distance traffic, on the other hand, have been rolling again since Monday.

Because of the closed S-Bahn tracks, the regional trains heading south were full on Monday afternoon. Some of the travelers were standing close together at Hamburg Central Station.

Train: Track could remain closed for days

How badly the bridge was damaged by the fire is still being investigated, a railway spokeswoman said on Tuesday. The second track could remain closed until the beginning of next week. Only then will there be a statement from the experts.

Truck fire on Monday under the Elbbrücken station

According to the police, a truck driver was driving on Zweibrückenstrasse around 6 a.m. on Monday when the driver of another vehicle drew his attention to the fire. The truck driver stopped directly under the bridge at the Elbbrücken station – and that had consequences for commuters: S-Bahn and long-distance traffic were interrupted, and the U4 no longer ran there in the meantime. 40 firefighters were on duty, and the fire was extinguished with foam at 7:30 a.m. According to the police, a technical defect could have caused the fire in the truck.
