By passing the Land Management Act in July 2021, Mashteuiatsh regained control of its lands, eliminating the application of 44 sections of the Indian Act. This legislation will notably allow members to contract a mortgage directly with the bank, which was impossible before. The community will also be able to adopt a law for the protection of the environment and have the tools to enforce it.
