Martine Letterie wins Thea Beckman Prize with Forbidden to Fly | NOW

Martine Letterie has with her book Forbidden to fly won the Thea Beckman Prize 2020. The prize was awarded on Saturday in the Archeon open-air museum in Alphen aan den Rijn.

Forbidden to fly is about a girl who grows up in a large family during the Second World War. Every year Archeon awards the Thea Beckman Prize to the best historical youth book.

The Young Beckman Prize goes to Shadow of the lion from Linda Dielemans. In addition to the adult jury, there is also a children’s jury. De Jonge Beckman will award this prize, according to the readers themselves, for the best historical youth book.

The Thea Beckman Prize has been awarded annually since 2002 to the best historical youth book. The winner receives 1000 euros and a certificate. The award is named after Thea Beckman (1923-2004), who wrote numerous children’s books.
